Old Forester® Returns to Texas for Third Release of King Ranch Limited-Edition Whiskey

by Phillip Galyean

Old Forester®, the first bottled bourbon, and King Ranch, the birthplace of American ranching, have announced the release of their third annual batch of limited-edition whiskey – Old Forester King Ranch.

This bourbon honors the hard work, ingenuity, and lasting legacy of two iconic brands with over 300 years of combined American history, reflecting the heritage of the Brown family of Brown-Forman and the lineage of King Ranch founder Richard King. “This bourbon is rich and bold in taste – the perfect tribute to two rich and bold American brands,” said Old Forester Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo.

Available exclusively in Texas starting October 15, 2024, Old Forester King Ranch Edition is bottled at 105 proof from a proprietary batch of Old Forester Bourbon using heavily charred barrels. The bourbon is finished through King Ranch mesquite charcoal, crafted from mesquite trees harvested from the ranch. This process adds a touch of Texas and highlights the bourbon’s bold flavor notes.

“We are proud of our continued partnership with Old Forester and looking forward to another release of this special product,” said Robert Hodgen, CEO of King Ranch. “Texans have found the whiskey a rare treat, eagerly anticipating its release each October.”

“Bourbon lovers across Texas will enjoy a unique blend of flavors that honor the legacy of our founder, George Garvin Brown, delivering quality and taste while recognizing the impact King Ranch has had on the Lone Star State and American ranching,” Trigo stated. “The first two batches, released in 2022 and 2023, sold out quickly, so we are excited to bring this bottle back to shelves in 2024.”

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: Maple Syrup
  • Aroma: Dried cherries, cranberries, toasted pecans, and marshmallows drizzled with sorghum molasses
  • Flavor: Sweet dark chocolate, tobacco, and leather spices mingle with toasted and caramelized oak and nut character
  • Finish: Long and warming

The suggested retail price for King Ranch is $99.99, and it will be available only in Texas.
