El Mero Mero Mezcal Review

by Evangelina Galyean

A company committed to the production of mezcal in a 100% artisanal way, El Mero Mero ( Spanish slang for the best or the top ) utilizes ingrained Mexican traditions and methods in every step of their creation process since their operations began in 2011. Grinding the 7 year old harvested Espadin agave in a tahona mill using a horse drawn stone before spending 3-5 days cooling in an earthen pit and fermenting in open encino oak wood vats for another 305 days. The spirit is then double distilled before its pure proof bottling, meaning no water is added, to keep just the heart of the spirit for the consumer to enjoy.

Nose: smoked agave, wafts of floral

Palate: Honey and cinnamon at the forefront with tangy earthy notes and citrus to balance the overall flavor profile.

Finish: Smokiness lingers in the mouth and mixes with hints of lemon peel and fresh green grass.
