Review: SirDavis American Whisky

by Daniel Galyean

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t expecting this much when I cracked open a bottle of SirDavis American Whisky. Celebrity spirits can be hit or miss, but this one? It genuinely surprised me. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the better celebrity whiskeys I’ve tried. It’s right up there with Gentleman’s Cut and Sweetens Cove, which is saying something.

What makes it stand out? For starters, it’s non-chill filtered, which means all those rich, fatty compounds that give whiskey its body and texture are still intact. You know, the good stuff that makes it feel like an actual craft whiskey instead of something watered down for mass appeal. Plus, it’s completely additive-free, which is a big win for anyone who cares about drinking a whiskey the way it was meant to be made.

But what really sets SirDavis apart is the Pedro Ximénez sherry cask finish. This adds such a beautiful layer of flavor—think dried fruits, a touch of nuttiness, and just the right amount of sweetness. It’s not overly sweet, though; it’s balanced, which I really appreciated. The sherry influence plays so nicely with the whiskey’s natural character without overpowering it.

Whoever Beyoncé partnered with to create this absolutely knew what they were doing. It’s obvious that real care went into crafting this, and it doesn’t feel like just another celebrity cash grab. Instead, it feels like a whiskey made for whiskey drinkers—not just Beyoncé fans looking for a cool bottle to show off.

If you’ve been burned by celebrity spirits before (haven’t we all?), give this one a shot. SirDavis American Whisky has substance, depth, and a little bit of that extra magic that makes you want to pour another glass. It’s a whiskey I’ll be keeping on my shelf.
