Sagamore Spirit Sour Ale Finish Rye Whiskey
Our friends at Sapwood Cellars in Columbia, Maryland are sour beer masters – always crafting something interesting. We shared a cognac barrel which they used to age a beer inspired by old-style European ales. When they checked on its progress, it was so singularly delicious they bottled it immediately, no blending or carbonation. When this 30+-year-old barrel came back for our secondary finishing, we wanted to make a whiskey just as distinctive. This Sour Ale Finish Rye Whiskey features a blend of our 5-6-year-old rye whiskies, aged an additional year and five months, imparting flavors of sour cherries and figs with candied nuts and rich vanilla on the nose.
Aged 5-6 years in charred new oak barrels. Aged 1 year & 5 months in Sour Ale barrels.
Flavor Profile:
Citrus zest, sour cherries, fig preserves, malted chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, bitter orange.

Bertie Brown – known as “Birdie” to her friends – was a woman of great courage. She was one of very few young African American women who homestead alone in Montana in the 1920s. Birdie was famous for her warm hospitality and for brewing what locals called the “best moonshine in the country.” One day in 1933, just before Prohibition ended, a revenue officer came around and warned her to stop her brewing. But as Birdie multitasked, dry cleaning with gasoline and tending to her latest batch of hooch, fumes from the gasoline ignited and her kitchen exploded. Birdie was tragically burned in the fire and died shortly after. Today, her once orderly homestead stands in a state of disrepair in the hills of Montana, a memorial to the immortal spirit and kindness of Birdie Brown.

Sam Adams Utopias 2021
The 12th biennial edition of Utopias was finished on 2,000 pounds of cherries, including Michigan Balaton cherries, to bring a slight sweetness and touch of tart flavor to this 28% ABV rarity. Sam Adams Utopias is a spirited blend of multiple batches of our extreme beers, some held in reserve for just this coveted biennial release. In fact, some of the beer dates back nearly three decades, aging in wooden bourbon casks. Brewers then finish the blend in a combination of Carcavelos, Madeira, Ruby Port, and Sherry Olorosobarrels. This year, for the first time, brewers also aged a portion of the blend in Sauternes French oak wine casks which brings subtle notes of honeyed apricot and caramel to the rich layers of flavor.

Samaroli 1992 Ledaig Single Malt Scotch
Here is a moment for those who love sherry-aged whisky. Marble-like, statuesque, represent and shiny as ivory column. As architects, we see this result come alive from a sketch to the space between earth and sky.
Incisive, intense, multi-faceted. Gifted and aggressive. A joyful bouquet and a Tower of Babel arching over our palate. First innuendos of film, solvent: we are in a photographers darkroom. Then a change of scene: a close-up on hints of toasted grains, wet leather and undergrowth. Pungent in the mouth, difficult on occasion. Not immediately pliable to our wishes -it’s hiding from us. Saline, but graciously. Peaty, but with class. The alcohol can be impertinent.
The sherry, and that sundown light, cutting across shadows entwine the colonnades and roofs of this Rome of ours. You will see it too. And you will feel it all in your own special way.

Samaroli 2008 Royal Brackla Single Malt Scotch 2022
Beauty is a gift. Is sensuality a quality? Chicago in the twenties (we are in the last century of course) awaits us. A time where all the world wanted to forget, perhaps too much. Fresh and mature, savory and sweet, lovable and hateful – the latter exclusively because it will come to an end, both in the glass and the bottle. Provoking, regal. Flirty yet haughty. This a very sensual sherry interpretation. A complete and exhilarating whisky enticing us to fantasies, and to imagine scenes from gangster films. So let’s ride on our 1928 T1, chasing tones and aromas. Among the dominating ones we clearly spot confectioner’s custard, cosmetics, oat, prairie herbs, leather, and tar. All in a symphony. Nose and palate play a game of opposites, and chase each other like cops and robbers.

Samaroli 2009 Caol Ila Single Malt Scotch
This time, we marry up mythical Aquitaine with our Scotland. Let’s enjoy a barrel of a Great Chateau which has consolidated and matured over 12 years – the strength and the character of an Islay malt/ Aging of the highest quality delivers a peaty result able to catty itself with utmost elegance. Speaking via silences rather than noise, it glides through our nostrils and the palate as it asks for forgiveness. Complex minerals are the master notes, sustaining the aromatic structural ensemble which supports and accompanies: fragrant as toasted grains, like hands caressing the spikelets on a summer afternoon. Tones of officinal herbs, vanilla, leather in the background and liquorice complete the bouquet, all enhanced by an elegant and intriguing touch of Bordeaux.

Samaroli Magnifico 1986 Glenrothes Single Malt Scotch 2022 Edition
This release of Samaroli Magnifico Single Malt Scotch Whisky is matured at Campbeltown. Distilled in. 1996 at Springbank Distillery. Bottled in Scotland in 2022 from selected Cask No. 567.
The nose is monumental, the cornerstone of a temple that could celebrate the aroma of Speyside. Fresh fruit heading towards over-ripenening, lavender and spring shrubs.
The palate is salty, with hints of sulfur and a subtle fruitiness with, as we said, that after-taste of whisky.

Samaroli Magnifico 1990 Benriach Single Malt Scotch 2022 Edition
No trip is better than the one crossing distilleries where the stills resting and the barrels breathing in time with the wind as though gathering momentum to take flight.
My first sip of this 31-year-old whisky, and it begins. A warm nose, reassuring and in fact somewhat paternal. Popping grains emanating wet hay aroma laden with ripe fruit caress us and prepare us for a second movement rich in flowers, resin, and autumn leaves. In the mouth, peace, and the sense of satisfaction a child experiences on his high chair just between the last spoonful and his afternoon nap.
Sated with the dimension and balance of alcohol, wood, and time that only this ponderous aging process can bestow, we prepare to unearth the interstitial tones within this work of art. Fruit in. Syrup, bread straight out of the oven, proving dough all the way to the waft from an oven newly lit with fresh wood.

Samaroli Magnifico 1994 Macallan Single Malt Scotch 2022 Edition
A path beginning in 1994 and ending today. A work of art from the northeastern folds of Europe reaching your glass and ready to enthrall. The nosing immediately awakens a fan of long-dozing sulfurous notes which are unleashed ad this Oloroso Macallan conquers the sides of our glass. After freeing itself, the saline somewhat kicks in, along with a certain fragrant quality. Finally and surprisingly it comes across as sweet in the mouth, as succulent as cherries in May. Here an extinguished match, there, a thermal fumarole. A range of strident yet oily scents. We find these perceptions overturned on the palate, the sweet tones liberated quickly, and the more linear suite of sensations playing hard to get, even resisting until the finish. Dried fruits and quince jam – yes, opposites do attract and complement each other to a tee – in a medley of shades and impressions which unfortunately have been long forgotten.
