The nose is effervescent and intricate with a medley of antique oak, apricot jam, fine licorice, and treacle tart. Soft baked apples, nutmeg, and tropical notes add to the overall complexity. A sweetness coats the mouth, with dates, sweet woodsmoke, bittersweet treacle toffee, and a hint of aromatic leafiness which then leads to a fruitiness and salinity reminiscent of a fine Palo Cortado. Soft tannins, subtle spice, and a continued mineralogy elongate the finish.

A beautifully balanced blend of citrus fruits with hints of woodsmoke and antique oak open on the nose, perfectly paired with sweet notes of raisin and plump, chewy dates. Extremely rich and resinous, sumptuous baked custard, crystallized ginger, marmalade, and sticky treacle open on the palate, before moving into a medley of dried fruit. The finish is long with sweet woodsmoke, with the traditional flavour of Cherry Bakewell and the linger of tropical fruits.

The nose is luminous with sweet antique oak and peat smoke giving way to heather honey, braised stone fruits, and creamy panna cotta. A suggestion of dried mango, baked fig, soft citrus zest, and thyme emphasizes incredible complexity. The taste is elegant, peat smoke fades to pineapple, bramble jam, and black tea with remarkable depth from red grape skins, cedar wood, gentle incense, and treacle toffee. A very long and intricate finish with lingering wood smoke, dark chocolate, and a twist of grapefruit.

The third release in the A Night on Earth series celebrates the universal night to celebrate the end of the year—a time for togetherness to reflect on what has passed and to toast what is to come. In celebration of our 200-year anniversary, we have gone to Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, where our exceptional oak casks are seasoned with sherry wine.

Created by The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team, the single malt Scotch whisky is a unique expression using a perfectly balanced combination of exceptional European and American sherry seasoned oak casks, inspired by the year-end traditions in the home of Sherry wine.

The Experience

Colour: Naranja Quemado

Nose: Honey-coated Pestiños, sweet raisins, cinnamon, anise, rich oak & vibrant citrus.

Palate: Sweet Pastry, white grapes, honey-glazed almonds, vanilla, balanced spices, and hints of fresh rosemary.

Finish: Sweet, vibrant, and warming.

Nochevieja

This release is inspired by New Year’s Eve in Jerez de la Frontera: a night full of meaning and tradition, known as Nochevieja, meaning “Old Night.”

In many cultures around the world, the year’s end is a time for togetherness—a night to be with people we love the most, to reflect on what has passed, and to toast what is to come. With this celebration come traditions and rituals that have been handed down from generation to generation until they become part of the soul of a place.

Special Moments

For this final product release in our 200th-year anniversary, we have collaborated with Maria Melero, born in Jerez, who has captured her memories of the festive period in her home city as inspiration to create the designs that can be enjoyed during the unique unboxing experience of A Night on Earth.

Celebration Inspired by Tradition

New Year’s Eve in Spain is inextricably linked with grapes and the sound of church bells welcoming the arrival of the New Year. It is said that anyone who managed to eat 12 grapes before the midnight bells stopped ringing was bound to have a good year.

This tradition began at the end of the 19th century and was popularised by farmers in Southeastern Spain during a particularly good year for crops when they started selling their surplus of grapes as lucky tokens to celebrate the New Year.

Presentation: The Gift

For this release, artist Maria Melero has evoked the sights, sensations, and emotions of a Spanish New Year’s Eve celebration in Jerez de la Frontera.

On the outer layer of the box is a nighttime vineyard landscape, where the symbolism of the protective nature of the rose bushes is expressed in the lower section of the artwork. In the upper section, a red night sky with the moon and a shooting star is depicted. The sherry wine that seasons our oak casks, where our whisky matures, is grown in fields just like this across Jerez de la Frontera.

As you open the gift box, the interior is arrayed with ‘azulejos,’ traditional Jerez wall tiles. These are a representation of the first glimpse of home and our return to it, imbued with the promise of a traditional, family celebration.

Finally, on the inner layer, luminous golden grapes from Jerez vineyards are illustrated, representing the sherry wine that one day will season The Macallan casks. These call back to the tradition of eating grapes at the strike of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

In collaboration with New Zealand artist Bonnie Brown, The Macallan A Night on Earth, The First Light pays tribute to New Zealand’s unique landscapes and its position as one of the first places in the world to greet the New Year’s Day sunrise. This special whisky, warm with fruity notes of berry compote, vanilla, sweet oak, and caramelized marshmallows, brings Bonnie’s cherished memories of sunlit moments and family gatherings to life through her distinctive artistry.

This release is a journey around the world to celebrate the arrival of a new year. Inspired by the vibrant city of Hong Kong, this unique single malt was created by The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker Euan Kennedy in collaboration with the Roca brothers, owners of the legendary El Celler de Can Roca restaurant. Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich, resinous, and sweet. Aromas of decadent ginger and spices are balanced by vibrant tropical characteristics like pomelo and mango. Subtle suggestions of Hong Kong-style egg tart, fragrant honey, and incredible antique oak.

Taste: Viscous and mouth-coating at first, bright tropical sweetness is followed by beautiful ginger and rounded spices providing great structure. Gentle waves of aged oak, grapefruit, and an umami-like depth.

Finish: Vibrant antique oak continues to shine.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Sugared pan de muerto bread, creamy vanilla and sweet pineapple sit alongside fragrant marigold flowers and a hint of fresh green coriander.

Taste: Intense sweetness with flavors of orange oil and chocolatey Mexican mole with charred pineapple.

Finish: Sweet, with a delicate note of charred coals.

Matured in the finest combination of six casks, crafted from both American and European oak, this single malt whisky is bottled at 49.5% and delivers notes that reflect the artistic character and ingredients which define New York City. Celebrating the combined expertise of Whisky Maker Polly Logan and the Roca brothers, owners of El Cellar de Can Roca, this limited edition release of only 1000 bottles, distils the essence of this iconic city.

Tasting Notes: Big apple with peanut brittle and milk chocolate. A sweet and salty mix like a rising dough and a whip of sidewalks, fresh rain, and cherry blossom. Palate: Baked apple and raisin, chocolate-covered nuts, maple syrup, and toasted waffles with a side of salted pecans. Finish: Medium with roasted nuts and sweet oak. Hue: City Sunrise.

The Macallan Double Cask 18 Year Old reveals the unrivaled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established in 1824. The perfect partnership of sherry seasoned American and European oak casks create the distinctive, warm character of this harmonious single malt. The delicate and indulgent flavors with The Macallan’s classic characteristics such as rich dried fruits and toasted wood spice attributed to European oak.

The rich mahogany hue of this 1989 Fine & Rare release from The Macallan is the result of decades of time spent maturing in a single European oak sherry butt cask. Distinct aromas of dark cherries, sweet treacle toffee, cocoa powder, and gingerbread. On the palate, amaretti biscuits, caramelized pineapple, a sprinkle of Demerara sugar, and rich treacle tart give way to candied fruits, plum jam, and a hint of dark chocolate. The multi-layered fish is long and complex. Filled on 12th December 1989 and bottled over 32 years later, this single cask is presented at its natural cask strength.
