Garrison Brothers Announces the Release of 2022 Guadalupe

by Phillip Galyean

Today Garrison Brothers Distillery, the award-winning first legal whiskey distillery in Texas, announced the release date for Guadalupe, the newest limited expression in the brand’s portfolio, in its second year of release. Named after one of the Lone Star State’s most beautiful rivers, Guadalupe Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey is port-cask finished bourbon that is bottled at 107 proof. On Saturday, July 23, 2022, Dan Garrison, Master Distiller Donnis Todd and the Garrison Brothers team will host a special distillery release event for Guadalupe 2022 with a drive-thru event for first come first serve and a total of 1002 bottles. The remaining bottles, over 4,900 will be available across the country starting August 1, 2022.

The story of Guadalupe began in 2015 when Garrison Brothers teamed up with one of Texas’ oldest and most beloved winemakers, Llano Estacado. After previously using the winery’s decades-old port casks to age 4-year-old bourbon and craft Garrison Brothers’ 2019 limited Texas straight bourbon whiskey Estacado, Master Distiller Donnis Todd began sourcing in Portugal for a more expansive port cask bourbon project, that which would become Guadalupe.

Of the new release, Master Distiller Donnis Todd Shares, “Such a beautiful bold bourbon with an amazingly long fruit forward finish.”

Garrison Brothers’ Master Distiller Donnis Todd connected and worked directly with winemakers across Portugal to secure rich and juicy port casks. The flavor characteristic of the sweet wine including berries, caramel, cinnamon and chocolate sauce have great appeal to a bourbon maker, with older tawny ports offering an even wider array of subtle flavors including graphite, green peppercorn, hazelnut, almond, butterscotch, and graham cracker.

Todd discovered a magic maturation combination: four years in white American oak casks followed by two years in the tawny port casks. He selected ninety 30-gallon bourbon barrels that had been originally filled in 2016. The Angel’s share losses were about 13 gallons per barrel, meaning there were just 1,530 gallons of bourbon to be used.

“Guadalupe is best enjoyed any way you like it. I can’t think of a better way to drink my dessert. And, I’ll pair that delicious nectar with my favorite chocolate, if I’m looking for a really good time.” Adds Dan Garrison.

Guadalupe is a sensuous, creamy liquid. Flavor notes include berry fruit, ripe plums, strawberry butter on flaky morning biscuits, chocolate and cinnamon, and lavender honey. Guadalupe is the perfect bourbon for connoisseurs with sophisticated palates and is considered a dessert bourbon. It is best enjoyed paired with one’s favorite chocolate or decadent sweet.

Garrison Brothers 2022 Guadalupe Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey will be available for purchase beginning in August 2022.
