John G. Carlisle was a leader of the “Bourbon Democrats” who fought for passage of the bottled-in-bond act of 1897. Protecting Americans from tainted whiskey. In addition to his time as U.S. Senator from Kentucky, John G. Carlisle served in the KY House of Representatives State Senate and as Lt. Governor he was also a member of Congress and served as Speaker of the House. He was Treasury Secretary under President Grover Cleveland.
